


RU at the Movies (Channel 30)
RU at the Movies is Rutgers' own premium movie channel. In combination with the Dalai Lama's visit, RU-tv presents three movies that deal in different ways with Tibet and journeys of self-discovery. For show times, check out the RU at the Movies complete schedule available online.
Seven Years In Tibet
Starring Brad Pitt, this fictionalized historical drama tells the story of an Austrian mountaineer who forms a life-changing friendship with the childhood Dalai Lama. 1997.
The Razor's Edge
In this second film version of W. Somerset Maugham's classic novel, a World War I veteran (Bill Murray) searches for the meaning of life during a journey from Paris to Tibet. 1984.
Lost Horizon
Frank Capra's classic interpretation of James Hilton's 1933 novel, starring Ronald Coleman and Jane Wyatt, explores the concept of utopia. An entirely restored soundtrack is matched with an incomplete copy of the film (the original film is no longer available); several missing scenes are replaced with still images. 1937.
The Rutgers Channel (Channel 8)
RU-tv presents a student-produced project for those who wish to familiarize themselves with Buddhist thought and the teachings of the Dalai Lama. Dr. Kurt Spellmeyer, Dr. Stephen Kilianski, Dr. Richard Wilson, and Dr. Albert Nigrin provide an overview of Buddhist philosophy and discuss topics such as bridging the gap between science and Buddhist meditation, the political situation in Tibet, and the Dalai Lama's influence on film.
