Welcome to a New Academic Year

Dear Rutgers Students:
Welcome to the 2007–08 academic year! Provost Steven Diner and I wish you the best possible experience—both in and outside the classroom.
Much is happening at Rutgers–Newark as the fall semester gets under way.
- Three new deans begin their tenures: Philip Yeagle at the Rutgers–Newark Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Michael Cooper at the Rutgers Business School–Newark and New Brunswick, and Adam Graycar at the School of Criminal Justice.
- We greet the first students in the Ph.D. program in American studies, as well as those pursuing our new master of fine arts degree in creative writing.
- We plan to begin construction later in the year of a new facility at One Washington Park for programs offered by the business school in Newark, and the university is working to develop graduate housing at 15 Washington Street.
- Rutgers is planning a series of programs and events to mark the Newark Campus's centennial in 2008.
Meanwhile, Provost Diner and the administration and faculty are working to take full educational advantage of the diversity of the Newark Campus, and to create new opportunities for the growing number of students who live on campus. It is an exciting time to be at Rutgers–Newark, and I hope you make the most of it.
